Quake
February 27, 2008
I went to bed just right after 12am and everything was just settling down as I shut down and fell asleep. I thought I had just laid my eyes for one second and before I even knew it, my bed started to shake. I was half-awake when it happened. I didn’t know what it was at first. I heard rattling sound in my room but since there is a rail track just behind my house, I tend to feel a little vibration everytime trains pass by, so I thought it was just another one. But this time it was no little vibration. It felt like my bed was moving back and forth and the rattling was loud. It lasted about 10 seconds, maybe more. It was too good to be true. Did I just experience an earthquake?
It turned out that I wasn’t the only one who felt it. My housemates downstairs felt it too. Alhamdulillah, thank God that the tremors weren’t strong enough to wreck havoc. Soon after, I went googling about it to find out whether there was any earthquake warnings beforehand but only to find a zero result until BBC posted an article regarding this a couple of minutes later.

Epicentre: Market Rasen, Lincolnshire
Richter-Scale: 5.3
I’m quite surprised to find out how close the epicentre is from where I live in Nottingham - about 90-100km away. This means we’re one of the closest cities from the epicentre. The report says that it is one of the biggest earthquake recorded in 25 years in the UK.
I’m not sure whether its the most exciting or frightening thing I have ever experienced, but one thing that only matters is everyone is safe and sound around here.
P.S.: Mom, dad and family in Brunei, need not to worry. I’m fine and so is everyone else.
